Y'all, this weekend my life WAS beautiful! We had an awesome family weekend. Totally relaxed, nothing to do. (Which is amazing, since we have been running around like crazy people for the last two months!)
Unfortunately, my Patriotic Cake Roll was NOT. :(
Thankfully, we weren't going to a party or anything. I just wanted to do something fun and festive since it was our nation's birthday! And, let me tell ya, if this were a house of girls my cake roll would have been awesome!
First let me show you what my cake should have looked like.
I found this cake roll from Crazy for Crust on Pinterest, and thought how fun! That looks simple enough! And sooo cute! Right?!

Ha! So, so wrong for this gal. Simple enough did not turn out simple enough for me. :) Thankfully, I can laugh at myself.
Here's what my cake roll looked like.

Like I said, if this were a house of girls, this cake would be the bomb-diggity. bahahaha! Somehow, my red just would not turn red! It was hot pink! (I've never had that problem, either. I have the Wilton cake coloring stuff, and it has always turned out just how it should... So, I can't tell ya what happened there...) When I unrolled my cake roll, I must not have put on enough powdered sugar because it totally fell apart. And then my pink and blue icing mixed together to make purple. So, Happy Birthday USA! Here's your pink, blue, and purple crumble cake! :)
You know what, though? It still tasted great and my Sugar Monsters loved it! :) So, hey, we definitely aren't winning any baking awards in this house, but I'm calling it a win. ;)
What did y'all do for the 4th?
