Worst First Week of Kindergarten... ever.

Our first week of kindergarten is officially in the books!

And, it was not good. In fact, it was terrible. :(

I had been preparing Micaiah ALL summer. I had read tons of blog posts, and knew exactly what to do. I was Hyping up his NEW backpack and NEW school clothes. Talking about how AWESOME school is, and how he is such a BIG kid.

On Monday morning, I got up super early and made sausage, pancakes, and eggs... his favorite breakfast! (And, I made pancakes 3 more times this week!)

I made a First Day of School Chalkboard. We took pictures. We were totally excited and all about school.

And then we got to school. Let's just say, all that prep work didn't help. At all.

We just experienced the worst first week of kindergarten... ever.

For starters, we have definitely been introduced to the disorganization and chaos that is public school.

M is in dual language kindergarten which is super awesome... And well, they put him in the wrong class. So, Meet-the-Teacher night was total chaos for us. We walked all over that school, talked with several different people. Just went through a mess. But, we thought it had been fixed.

Well, we were wrong. It had, in fact, not been fixed. So, on day 1 we spent 30 minutes in the office trying to get the problem taken care of. He finally went to class, but the excitement of the morning had worn off, and he was officially anxious and just really unsure. :(

On Tuesday, he didn't want to go. And that afternoon, as we parked in the driveway after picking M up, he threw up. Everywhere. :(

Then, again first thing on Wednesday morning. So, with a nasty stomach bug that affected ALL FIVE of us, M stayed home and I had a giant pile of nasty laundry to do.

On Thursday, again, he just didn't want to go.

But on Friday, oh Friday. It was the worst morning of all.

He did not want to go. He tried to talk me out of it the whole way there. I had to carry him in, crying. And eventually, had to peal him -crying harder- off of me and head out the door, wiping away my own tears because, let's face it, I'd reached my absolute max of seeing my baby totally anxious, upset, and plain out distraught about going to school. His exact words: "I just don't like it when you leave me!" :( A total stab in the heart. (Is this the beginning of abandonment issues?!)

I keep reminding myself that I did it, Chris did it, my sisters, my brother, my niece and nephew... they have all gone to school. And hopefully, hopefully M will learn to love it too. :/

Until then, I just may be crying every morning too.

Here's to next week... It can only get better. Right??

Plain Wood Crate turned Vintage Beauty

Hey guys!

So, a couple of weeks ago my awesome friend Gina was throwing a party for her sweet lil girl. I volunteered to help with this crate for the food table (which was seriously one of the cutest lil girl birthdays I have ever seen!!!), and I just love how the crate turned out too. :)

Turned out pretty cute, right?! :)

I just stained it, then painted a couple coats of white. Then I used the power sander to sand it down (focusing more on some spots). Then, I used the stain on top, rubbing it into the white. And, that was that! :)

Antique Chair Reupholstery

A while back, my Nana mentioned that she really wanted me to reupholster a 100-year old chair that she had at her house. Well, you can imagine that made me a little nervous. :) But, I was also excited enough to take it on!

Y'all, I'm so frustrated at myself for not taking a before of this chair. :( I was sure I had it in my phone, not remembering that my phone had been wiped because I was having issues and I did not have a backup that included that picture. Grrr.

Well, the before was a gold floral patterned fabric, that had been ripped in a couple of places, and was just dingy and gross. You never realize just how nasty a chair can get until you start taking it apart!

Here's the after!!!

This is technically my first fully completed chair reupholstery! I have finally started my wingback chairs, but have only made it about 85% of the way with one of them. :/ Really hoping to get that done of these days...
