Hey, y'all. How's it going?
It's been a while. Sorry 'bout that. I trust that life has been treating you well? I sure hope so!
For us, life has been insane. In.SANE.
Seriously, a few months ago, I totally thought that we were going to buy our new house and take a few weeks to get settled in, and then I could start crafting and creating and doing awesome things to our cool new house. But, you know what? It totally didn't work out like that. :/
In fact, we are still not settled. But, we are getting there. Slowly. Slooooooowly, but surely. :)
It feels like we have had a thousand things go wrong! And, every time, I just smile and say, "Welcome to owning a home!!!" Ha! Seriously, we bought a foreclosure so we knew that we were in for some work. We had new carpets put in all of the bedrooms, I painted everything, and Chris (with the help of a good friend!) put in laminate wood floors in the living room and upstairs hallway. (We still need to do the stairs!) We knew that we were going to have to replace a few ceiling lights. I guess the former owners weren't giving up their lights! :) I spent quite a few hours trimming palm trees that looked like they hadn't been touched in years. Chris fixed some spots on the roof. We had a small mouse problem to deal with... :/

But then the kids flooded the bathroom which meant that Chris had to pull out the brand new, beautiful floor and re-do it. (And then again when he realized we forgot to bleach the concrete before he put the flooring down the second time. :) And then the A/C broke. (Thankfully it is getting cold, so we have some time to save up for that one!) When it did, it leaked water down through the ceiling, and left a big soggy spot that we'll also need to fix. Some of the toilets are a little wonky, so we need to fix those too.
And then, our stove broke.
So, needless to say, between repairing tons of stuff, and unpacking and laundry and cooking and cleaning and grocery shopping and dishes and taking care of the kids and soccer practice and and and.... We're not totally there. In more ways than one. ha! :)
Seriously, though, I'm not complaining. At this point, it really is a little humorous. And owning our own house is still super exciting! I love that all of the walls are the colors that I (and Chris) chose! I love sitting out on our back porch and just hanging out. I love meeting our neighbors, and going to our HOA meeting and getting to know more of them. I loved taking our kids trick or treating. I love when my kids see hippos around town and get super excited and say, "Look at that hippo! That means we're in my town!" :) Yes, we are now proud Hutto Hippos! #hipponation I love being able to browse Pinterest and actually imagine projects that I can do to our real home. As opposed to the "maybe someday" home that I used to imagine my Pinterest projects going into. Seriously. And, I actually even kind of like mowing the lawn. :)

So, despite the fact that the people at Lowe's are starting to know us on a first-name basis, I'm still excited that I get to say "We are homeowners!"
Hey, at least they have fun at Lowe's! We do spend a lot of time there.
Lesson? Über thankful that we waited to be a little more financially prepared to take on the burden of a house. (Seriously, if all of these unexpected things were going wrong and we didn't have money in the bank to cover them, I'd be a big, 'ol ball of stress right now!) So, if you don't own a house just yet, and you are feeling antsy to jump on it, make sure you consider these things! Remember, anything that can go wrong, probably will. So, be a boy scout. Be prepared. :)
And, even through all of this, I have managed to get a few fun projects done! I'll start sharing them with you tomorrow!!!
Do you own a house? What has your experience been like on this??
